HAMBLETON HALL
The modernity of British boutique hotels, the great heritage of the British countryside hotels.
Hambleton Hall is a hotel and restaurant located in the village of Hambleton close to Oakham, England. The restaurant has held one star in the Michelin Guide since 1982. The Hall was built in 1881 as a hunting box by Walter Marshall who left it to his sister, Eva Astley Paston Cooper. The hall has overlooked Rutland Water since the reservoir's construction in the 1970s. The building was converted into a country house hotel in 1979/80 by Tim and Stefa Hart. Hambleton Hall has been named Luxury Hotel of the Year in The Good Hotel Guide, 2018.
I joined the Black Swan Edge Design Team in February 2015. This unique project was an opportunity for us to step out of the financial industry and modernise the British boutique countryside hotel heritage.
The Challenge
Hambleton Hall wanted to bring their countryside hotel heritage into the eCommerce retail experience - one that was ready for the ever-evolving expectations of the British consumer.
To build the retail experience while keeping the Hall’s luxury heritage, we developed a visual language centred around the hotel identity, led by a mobile-first philosophy that meets consumers needs – designed for discovery, built for today’s life.
